Gasoline averaged two cents higher per gallon in Nevada as the week began than it had cost a week earlier, according to a survey of 1,130 outlets statewide.
The price was $3.21 per gallon on average, according to a survey by GasBuddy.com, while the same website reported the national price spiked 8.5 cents to reach $2.68 a gallon on average. The spike was due in large part to zooming gasoline costs in the Midwest due to an emergency shutdown of a refinery at Whiting, Ind. The state and national surveys were completed on Sunday and released Monday.
In Carson City on Monday, meanwhile, the lowest priced outlets were offering a pump price of $2.69 per gallon. They were JM Gasoline at 1321 N. Carson St. and Eagle Gas at 1360 Carson St. The only other outlet in the city below $2.70 among those checked was Costco, 700 Old Clear Creek Road, while 22 others had prices ranging from $2.77 to $3.19 a gallon.
In other words, Carson City’s lowest price was a penny higher than the national average and the state capital community’s highest price was pegged just two cents below the statewide average.
Nationally, according to a GasBuddy petroleum analyst, the spike may be over.
“At this point,” said Patrick DeHaan, “it does appear that most of the price shocks are behind us, though if there are any curve balls that hit the market, all bets are off. Outside the Great Lakes (area), most regions are seeing gasoline prices decline.”
