Harold Nelson

1919-2015

Harold Nelson passed away peacefully at his home in Carson City, Nev. at age 95. His entrepreneurial spirit - forged during the Great Depression with a newspaper route - motivated him and inspired others throughout his life. A WWII Navy veteran who served on the USS Clytie, Harold was a gifted engineer and inventor with an insatiable curiosity and a love of travel. He enjoyed keeping up with the latest technology and mastered the Internet at the age of 80. He was born on a farm in South Dakota and later moved to Iowa where he met and married his late wife Mabel. Always looking forward, they relocated to Southern California in the 1950s where opportunities existed in the emerging electronic technologies. There they had 40 happy years raising their daughters and enjoying the Golden State’s beaches, national parks and mountains. Harold leaves behind his five daughters: Gloria (Rolf), Gayleen (Randy), Carol (Bill), Jeri (Dave), Terri (Bill); six grandchildren Kerstine (Niels), Erik, Blake, Tyler, Evan, Jake; niece Sharon and nephew Michael; and his caring companion, Bernice. Harold was a master problem solver with a quick wit who never forgot a friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held on Monday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community, Carson City, Nev.; burial at Fairhaven Cemetery in Santa Ana, Calif.
