Sep. 22, 1925 - July 28, 2015
Gloria passed away at ManorCare in Reno while recovering from a stroke. She was 89. She was born on September 22, 1925 to Albert William and Charlotte Ella Johnson in Turlock, Calif. Her mother passed away when she was 3 and she and her two sisters were raised by their father in Turlock. She graduated from Turlock High School in 1942 and went to work at the local bomb factory helping the war effort during WWII. There she met Carl Farris, fell in love and married him in 1943 in Santa Cruz, Calif. She was a city girl and a church goer who married a rough and tumble man from Stevinson. One time before they were married she rode her bicycle from Turlock to Stevinson over 15 miles and said it about killed her. They lived on a ranch in Stevinson for several years and Carl worked at a creamery in Newman. Carl was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1952. Gloria then went to work to support her two children. She had several jobs including selling advertising for KTRB Radio Station in Modesto and ran a Beauty College in Oroville. She married Bill Ware in 1965 and moved to Washoe Valley, Nevada in 1967. She had several jobs always trying to get that better job. She retired from Carson Tahoe Hospital’s business office in 1992. She greatly enjoyed taking care of her grandsons and later her great grandchildren; she enjoyed family get togethers; going out to dinner and having a glass of wine; reading; going to shows at the casinos; and visiting with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters - Charlotte Keller and Agnes Kenoyer. She is survived by her son Bill Farris, wife Betty; her daughter Carlene Rader; and her three “perfect” grandsons - Chris Farris, wife Suzanne; Doug Farris and Tom Farris. Also three “perfect” great grandchildren Artemisia, Calvin and Kylee; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service in Turlock, Calif at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Shriners Children’s Hospital, St Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice. Everyone who knew her loved her and enjoyed her company. She was gracious, kind, generous, strong willed and loved to listen to all the stories of family and friendsShe was a very special lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Beloved Mother and Grandmother, you will always be in our hearts and memories.
