Robert Braun clocked a 20:51:001 to win the Alta Alpina’s Fredricksburg Prologue on Aug. 13.

Kevin Willitts was second in A group at 21:58:002 followed by Danner Hillman at 21:59:003. Andrew Huntington won B group with a 22:55.001 followed by Bob Gagen at 23:17:002 and Eric Jacobs at 25:09:003. Joseph Whiteley won C group in 25:49:002 followed by Patrick Mobley at 26:02:001. Clay Peterson won D group in 25:38:001 followed by Scott Shicks at 28:20:002. Lianne Huntington won the juniors at 33:27:001.

• Josh Rennie won the Starbucks Criterium A group race followed by David Christenson and Kevin Willitts. Michael Bayer won B group followed by Bob Gagen and Rick Miyashiro. Patrick Mobley won C group followed by Joseph Whiteley and Bill Mobley. Leon Malmed won D group followed by Clay Peterson and Scott Herman. Lianne Huntington won the junior race.

Charity golf tourney

set for Silver Oak

The third annual Americans for Wounded Veterans Benefit Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 5 at Silver Oak. Proceeds from the tourney benefit the Nevada Military Support Alliance.

The cost is $95 per player for the four-person scramble event. Cost includes golf, cart, breakfast refreshments and lunch.

There’s a long drive contest, hole-in-one award, putting contest and closest to the hole as well as a raffle.

• Karin Pitcock tallied 115 and Sandra Morigeau 107 to win their respective flights at the Silver Oak Women’s Club Fairways and Putts game last week.

Pitcock won Flight 1 by 10 points over Vicki Barbaria and Joann Sheerin was third with 86 points.

Behind Morigeau in Flight 2 was Marty Lewis with an 83 and Loretta Szymanski with a 75.

• The 16th annual Western Nevada Golf Classic is set for Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. at Silver Oak.

The cost is $125 per player or $475 per team. The cost includes golf with cart, light breakfast, on-course refreshments, tee prizes, a barbecue after golf and awards.

• A footgolf tournament sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce is set for Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Silver Oak.

The cost is $40 per player which includes a golf cart and prizes. Bring your own soccer ball and tennis shoes. No cleats are allowed.

Hauck, Willis win

Empire Ranch event

John Hauck and Robey Willis shot a net 130 to win the 2-man event (blind draw) on Aug. 12 for the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club.

Marshal McCurdy and Bill Milligan were second in Flight 1 at 131 and John Tierney and Chuck Bell took third at 132.

Jack Medeiros and Bob Pemberton were the champs in Flight 2 with a 126. Lee Chiglieli and Dick Montoya were second at 127 followed by Dick Blankenship and Kurt Cleek at 135.

Begovich group wins

The team of Chris Begovich, Charlie Poe, Jack Sparman and Dan Essary won the Mulligan Stew Charity Golf Tournament at Carson Valley Golf Club over the weekend.

Finshing second were Joe Bourgeous, Luke McClean, Annette McClean and Colin Brooks.

The event raised $912 and a truck load of groceries for the Food Closet.

Volleyball skills class

set in Gardnerville

A series of classes for boys and girls in fifth through eighth grade for Wednesdays and Fridays starting in September.

Wednesday sessions are designed for students interested in playing middle school volleyball:

Session I is Sept. 2 and 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. ($25); session II is Sept. 16, 23 and 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. ($45); session III is Oct. 7, 14 and 21 ($45); and session IV is Oct. 28, Nov. 4. Nov. 18, Dec. 2 and Dec. 9 ($75).

Friday sessions are designed for fifth and sixth graders:

Session I: Sept. 4 and 11 ($25); session II: Sept. 18, 25 and Oct. 2 ($45); session III: Oct. 9, 16 and 23 ($45); and session IV: Nov. 6, 13 and 20, and Dec. 4 and 11 ($75).
