RENO — The Barrett-Jackson car auction is ending its three-year relationship with Hot August Nights.
Hot August Nights director Mike Hahn says the Arizona-based company won’t be returning to Reno next summer. He told the Reno Gazette-Journal officials for the collector car company informed him Wednesday it was not in their best financial interest.
Barrett-Jackson issued a news release after this year’s Hot August Nights Auction saying it had record sales of $9.5 million in Reno.
But company CEO Craig Jackson told the newspaper earlier most of its auctions are stand-alone events. His firm also holds annual auctions in Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Arizona; and Palm Beach, Florida.
Chris Baum, president of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, says Barrett-Jackson isn’t used to sharing the spotlight with competing options for its customers.
