The Nevada Department of Transportation and Lyon County Public Works are reminding motorists to be aware of a new traffic signal installed at U.S. 50 and Fortune Drive in Dayton.
The signal was installed by developer 50 Fortune LLC. through a permit sponsored by Lyon County. Lyon County will maintain the traffic signal. For safety, the county has placed temporary roadside electronic signs to raise awareness of the new signal. NDOT has also reduced the permanent speed limit from 55 to 45 miles per hour near the Fortune Drive area.
Creating what is known as a high T intersection, the new traffic signal controls the flow of traffic traveling westbound on U.S. 50, as well as eastbound U.S. 50 traffic turning left onto Fortune Drive. U.S. 50 eastbound traffic does not have a signal and continues through the intersection. Vehicles turning left from Fortune Drive onto eastbound U.S. 50 will be able to merge onto the highway using an approximately 1,300 protected left acceleration lane constructed this summer by NDOT.
