Sandoval names Cates Director of Administration

Gov. Brian Sandoval has named deputy Wildlife Department Director as his new head of the Department of Administration.

The department’s structure was greatly modified by the 2015 Legislature, which separated most administrative functions from the Budget Office, Executive Branch Audit and other financial functions.

That created the new Governor’s Office of Finance under Jim Wells.

Cates will manage functions including Personnel, Information Technology, Purchasing, Fleet Services and the Hearings Division.

Sandoval said Cates has extensive experience including in the Department of Cultural Affairs, Health and Human Services and DMV before joining Wildlife.
