After a long battle with multiple myeloma, Carol Read-Andersen was reunited with her creator early on the morning of November 30th at her home, surrounded by those who loved her. She was proceeded in death by her parents and is
survived by her husband Michael H. Andersen; whom she married in 1980. Carol is also survived her daughter Rachel, her older sister Erin Read, as well as many relatives in Reno and along the East Coast. Carol was born September 2nd, 1952 in Munich, Germany to Lieutenant Colonel John William Mackey Read and Cornelia Follett Potter Read and was raised with her older sister in Reno, NV. She graduated from Bishop Manogue High School in 1970; completed her bachelor’s degree in Nursing at the UNR Orvis School of Nursing in 1974, after which she attended and graduated from the Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing in 1978. She spent the following years practicing medicine in rural Kentucky, then returned to northern Nevada to further her career. In addition she later traveled to Bangladesh multiple times to practice midwifery with her close friend Linda Kilheifer Biswas. She also attended John’s Hopkins Bloomberg School of Hygiene and Public Health, where she received her master’s degree in Public Health. Furthermore, Carol volunteered at the FISH health clinic in Carson City during her career in Family Practice with several local Carson City doctors.
Carol found the beauty in everything and experienced life to its fullest. She was a great source of support and encouragement to anyone who needed her, which was sustained by her strong faith in the Lord. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City on Monday, December 7th at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by a gathering at Glen Eagles Restaurant from 3-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the International Myeloma Foundation.
