Community spotlight: Olympic boxing trials will be held in Reno

The U.S. Boxing trials for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil are scheduled for Dec. 7-12 at the Silver Legacy Grand Exposition Hall and the Reno Events Center.

The trials, which will be free to the public, will have two sessions daily (1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) at Silver Legacy. The trials will run next Monday through Thursday.

The finals are Dec. 11-12 at the REC. General admission is $15 and ringside is $25.

Season passes at CVGC

Season passes for Carson Valley Golf Club go on sale Dec. 15.

For single walkers, the cost is $950 and $1,450 with a cart. For a couple, the cost is $1,600 and with a cart it’s $2,425. The cost for a junior walker is $99.

California International Marathon on Sunday

The annual California International Marathon is set for Dec. 6 in Sacramento.

The race was founded in 1983 by the Sacramento Running Association. It begins at the Folsom Dam, passes through semi-rural suburbs into bustling mid-town Sacramento, and finishes at the California State Capitol building. This is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Several locals are expected to participate, including Nicole Kastens, Joe Thornburg and 12-year-old Parker Lehmann.
