The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is hosting weekends of holiday Saturday and Sunday. Trains depart at noon and 2 p.m. from Virginia City’s F Street Station. The rides offer hot chocolate, cider, cookies and candy canes and a reading of the poem “Night Before Christmas” and other activities. Christmas on the Comstock, a month-long holiday celebration, offers pictures with Santa from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Visitors Center, 86 S. Holiday vendors offering handmade jewelry, salt lamps, baskets, metal art and more will be on hand at the Carson Mall through Dec. 27. Catmandu, a nonprofit cat adoption center, is hosting a booth from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday inside the north end of the mall. Wild Horse Children’s Theater is putting on the holiday musical “Babes in Toyland” at 7 p.m. Friday; at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall. Santa Trains will run every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and Dec. 19 and 20 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 2180 S. Carson St. Santa will be on hand, and Warren Engine Company will sell refreshments. Tickets cost $5 per person; children under 3 who sit in an adult’s lap ride for free. First United Methodist Church’s annual Living Nativity starts at King and Division streets and offers live reenactments of Jesus’ birth from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. Weather permitting, Carson City’s Olde Time Christmas Santa Parade will start at 11 a.m. at the corner of W. Telegraph and Musser streets. The line begins at 10:30 a.m. Santa will be on the porch at Rocking & Rolling at Telegraph Square with hot chocolate and candy canes from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors will be at Telegraph Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To be a vendor or for information, call Doreen Mack at 775-885-2444.

Western Nevada College in Carson City is hosting Run with Rudolph Winter Trail Run 9-10 a.m. The course, mostly single track with some sections of fire road in Ash Canyon, offers gradual ascents and descents. Snow and ice are possible on the route. Go to http://ascentruns.com/.

The Dayton Valley Library’s Santa Photo Shoot will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center on Pike Street. Attendees are asked to bring in a nonperishable food item in exchange for a photo with Mr. and Mrs. Clause. Conductor Bill Zabelsky and Assistant Conductor Stephanie Reynolds will lead the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra at 7 p.m. for an evening of seasonal music and song. The free Annual Winter Concert at the CVIC Hall will feature holiday favorites and a sing-along and an appearance by the Voices of the Sierra Choir. Holiday crafts that celebrate the Nevada pine trees are on the agenda for the December program “Pines are Fine” at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No reservations are needed and guests of all ages are welcome. Buckland Station’s holiday open house with sweet treat and period crafts will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Non-perishable food will be collected for the Silver Stage Food Pantry in Silver Springs. Food stored in glass will not be accepted. Buckland Station is on Highway 95A near Stagecoach. Admission is $1 per person for ages 13 and older; 12 and younger are free. Cash or check only. TOCCATA — Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will present its holiday production of selections from Handel’s Messiah as well as favorite carols the audience will be invited to join in singing. The Carson City performance is at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 3597 N. Sunridge Drive. Four other performances are planned this month around the Reno-Tahoe area. The New Victorian Dancers and Carson City Symphony Chorus will be featured in Carson City Symphony’s 32nd annual Holiday Treat concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Bob Boldrick Theater of the Carson City Community Center. The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a Christmas show with Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 19 in the Performance Hall. Tickets range in price form $25 to $50. VIP tickets include a meet and drink with the band. Call 775-883-1976.

Cafe at Adele’s is hosting cookies with Santa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19. There also will be hot chocolate and cider as well as live music by the Dowell Brothers. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children. Proceeds go to Ron Wood Family Resource Center. Unwrapped toys for local children will be collected at the event.
