A project to raise money for education and break a world record by forming a large human Christmas tree is the two-pronged senior project of Taylor Weddell at Carson High School.
Working with the Carson City Schools Foundation, Weddell is pushing for folks to gather 3,000 strong at the Carson High School football field, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, to form the world’s largest human Christmas tree there about 11 a.m. The current record, set in Honduras, was set previously by gathering 2,945 people to form the world’s largest Christmas tree, according to Weddell.
“I jumped at the opportunity to participate in an event that brings a community together, raises funds and breaks a world record,” she said in a release noting it’s her way of doing the project every Carson High senior must take on.
“It was a little intimidating for sure,” she added, “but I’m working closely with the Board of Directors with the Carson City Schools Foundation and learning so much in the process.”
She said it’s bringing out some leadership qualities she didn’t know she had.
A flier promoting the event indicated with 3,000 to form the tree, the record can be broken and each participant would be given a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records if the group succeeds. The flier and Weddell also cautioned parking is limited. Weddell said when the tree is formed, everyone participating must remain still for six minutes for the record to count.
The event is free and includes inducements for participants, along with the chance at the certificate, such as hot chocolate or coffee and entertainment while at the field. Donations, however, will be accepted.
“We will be raising funds for the Carson City Schools Foundation,” said Weddell, adding the foundation “was created to increase student achievement through philanthropic investment and involvement.”

All ages are welcome, but the recommendation is for people ages 10 and older because it may be cold and due to the requirement to stay stationary for six minutes.
