Christmas At Empire. Mr. J.A. Walker will give a ball at the Empire Hotel, Empire City, on the night of 25th inst. We wish our neighbors a “Merry Christmas” in advance — and they will no doubt experience that joyful satisfaction if they wind up the day’s devotion and frolic in the manner suggested by this ball announcement.

(On the closure of the Mint) The Blazing bonfire in front of the Opera House and the street parade of the drum corps drew a large audience last evening. Wells Drury, the secretary of the meeting, then read letters form prominent men throughout the state. “It is hardly necessary for me to say that I am in full sympathy with the object of the meeting, and shall do all in my power, in and out of Congress, to procure the re-establishment of the Carson Mint on a working basis and to protect the silver interests of the State of Nevada,” respectfully, James G. Fair.

Governor and Mrs. Boyle left on last night’s train for San Francisco. At Reno the governor will be joined by Dr. R. H. Mullen, member of the Nevada State Board of Health, and they will attend a conference from western states to devise some method to prevent and stamp out the spreading of rabies.

Leisure Hour members hold holiday party. The main hall was decorated in pine bows, cedar and offset by a pretty Christmas tree. Christmas carols were sung and a general good time was enjoyed by all present. Old fashioned square dances were a feature of the evening. Frank Gregory as Santa Claus was excellent.

Mike Ingersoll, the University of Nevada’s late student body president, was eulogized today by Gov. Grant Sawyer as “a leader who possessed the wisdom and the courage to lead by example, rather than by directive.”

Rules controlling ferret ownership could become stricter in Carson City following a Board of Supervisor’s meeting.
