Nov. 27, 1931 - Dec. 13, 2015
Roger Warren Mills was born November 27, 1931 in Fallon, Nevada, and he passed away on December 13, 2015, at 84 years of age. His parents were Percy and Ruth Candee Mills and he grew up helping to work the family farm. He
also went hunting, fishing, and exploring Nevada with family and friends. He participated in both 4-H and FFA. While serving in the Army in Korea, Roger realized that what he really wanted to do was have a farm of his own so he bought some land in Fallon, came home, and started building up his soil and a cow herd. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno and received a Bachelor’s in Agriculture, and took time for the rest of his life to read, take classes, research and experiment on how to improve his farm and livestock, not to mention his vegetable garden. He also took up writing poetry, and twice was one of the featured poets at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV. In 1960, he married Margot Berney and started on the next love of his life, his wife and family. The family worked the farm, and went camping, swimming, and exploring together. Besides farming, Roger soon started his own business, Mills Ranch Consultants, selling dairy and livestock supplies, and later teaching classes on cattle reproduction. Roger was an active part of his community. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, taking part on both the county and state levels. He took part in the local square dance club, church choir, Lahontan Valley Concert Choir, and Toastmasters, as well as serving a term on the TCID board of directors. Roger is survived by his wife, Margot, his brother Elbert, children Dennis(Trudy) Mills, Ronald(Pam) Mills, and Caroline(Alvin) Barger, 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 28, at 10:30 A.M. at the
Epworth United Methodist Church at 280 E. Stillwater Ave. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the scholarship fund for the Future Farmers of America at Churchill County High School. Gifts can be given in at the high school, at the service, or to family members; checks can be made to “CC FFA Scholarship”.
