Carson City Board of Supervisors to finalize NID, reorganize in first meeting of 2016

Authorization of a downtown neighborhood improvement district and dealing with 2016 board member committee assignments will concern Carson City’s Board of Supervisors Thursday.

The agenda for the board meeting, set for 8:30 a.m. that first Thursday of the new year in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, includes no lunch break and so should be done by mid-day. The center is at 851 E. William St.

Among agenda items is discussion, if needed, and final action on an ordinance creating the downtown district, or NID, authorized under state law to assess property owners for maintenance after a downtown streetscape makeover.

“The proposed NID includes private properties generally located along Carson Street and Curry Street between Fifth Street and William Street, and on Plaza Street between Proctor Street and William Street,” according to a city staff summary.

Final action on awarding the contract for the first phase of the multi-million dollar makeover along Carson Street, as well as a plaza on West Third Street, will come at a later board meeting. Work is expected to begin in late February or early March.

Also on Thursday‘s agenda are items calling for 2016 reorganization.

They call for election of a chairman and vice chairman of the Redevelopment Authority, which basically is the board membership, as well as appointment of board members to various boards, committees and commissions.

On many of the advisory boards, committees and commissions, at least one governing board member serves. Many of those advisory units meet monthly or periodically.
