Nevada Legislature, Seventh Session, 29th day. All of the Senatorial Solons who took a trip to Virginia City reported themselves in apple-pie order this morning and seemed anxious to proceed to legislation — evidentially pleased with the results of their brief holiday recess. Sen. Varian of Humboldt submitted a lengthy petition from citizens setting forth the construction of a railroad from Winnemucca to Portland. The petition was tabled.

The present Legislature. For many years past, the people of Nevada have been somewhat accustomed to see their Legislature roundly abused by the press. There can be no question regarding the propriety of this abuse in several well-remembered instances. The present Legislature has been alluded to as rather quiet, stupid crowd, by a good many people who are too thoughtless to investigate. It is doing more actual work and making less windy display over it than any previous Legislature ever assembled.

Two Nevadans — Capt. Robert J. Duncan, a former mining engineer of Virginia City, and Cpl. Karl D. Tobey of Fallon — were among those rescued in the daring raid on the Cobantuan prison camp on Bataan.

Sen. Howard W. Cannon urged repeal of the 10 percent cabaret tax and introduced a resolution to permit 18-year-olds to vote. Reduction of the cabaret tax from 20 to 10 percent several years ago brought about a remarkable expansion to the entertainment industry, Cannon said.
