Ronald “Ron” L. Simek, 85, of Genoa, NV, formerly of Medford, WI, passed away Tuesday January 20, 2015 at Renown Hospital in Reno. Ron was born November 9, 1929, to Josef and Vlasta (Hrdlicka) Simek, at the family homestead in the Township of Ogema, WI. He married Joan E. Matheus in March of 1955, whom he later divorced. He is survived by his children: Rhonda (Robert) Cummings of Ogema, Tony (Sandra) Simek of Cody, WY, Jeffrey (Lisa) Simek of Ogema, Wendy (Brian) Cummings of Ogema, Sisters: Gloria Olmstead of Medford, Vlasta ìViî Cummings of Delta Junction, AK, Half Brothers: Bill (Mary Ann) Noziska of Casper, WY and Daniel (Judy) Noziska of Juneau, AK, twelve Grandchildren, and fourteen Great-Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Parents, and Brother Joseph “Pep” Simek, in 2013. Ron graduated from Westboro High School and then served in the US Army and was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in Germany. After the service, he then went on to work in Wausau in the timber industry and served as a Game Warden in Rusk County for periods of time. He owned and operated Green Acres Tavern in rural Medford. In 1960 he purchased Tombstone Tap. From 1962-1986 he co-owned/co-operated and served as president of Tombstone Pizza Corp. in Medford. He then was a rancher in Ogema, WI, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming until the time of his death. His business interests included a golf course, real estate business, and gun club. He was a very active member of the Republican Party, enjoyed hunting, farming, socializing and polka music. He was inducted into the WI Better Business Bureau, Book of Who’s Who, WI Business Hall of Fame in 2011, and Rib Lake High School Hall of Fame in 2013. He was a life member of Premeau-Schauss VFW Post # 7817, Westboro, NRA, Wild Sheep Foundation, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Services for Ron will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday January 31 at First Lutheran Church in Ogema, WI, with Rev. Dr. Bob Giese officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 PM, Friday January 30, at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel, and also on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at First Lutheran Church, Ogema. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the Westboro VFW. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in honor of Ronald may be given to the Premeau-Schauss VFW Post # 7817, Westboro, WI.
