Tomorrow night Mrs. Stenhouse, who for many years lived in Mormondom, will lecture in the Assembly Chamber on the Mountain Meadow Massacre. This lady had lived in Utah at the time of the massacre when Brigham Young held the appointment of federal governor of the territory.

130 years ago

The Grand Jury report which is published in the local columns contains a finding relative to the county printing which we hope all taxpayers will read. The publisher of the Appeal addressed a note to the foreman of that body, and asking for an immediate investigation. A special committee was formed and found the printing of the registry list in accordance with a written contract made with the county.

100 years ago

If ever Reno was in evidence in Carson, it was today when a special train, consisting of eight cars, arrived with a human load of over 700 people and would have been larger if the railroad could have furnished accommodations. Arriving at the depot, the Renoites formed a line three and four abreast and marched up Main Street to the Capitol building to watch members in action.

State treasurer and Mrs. Dan W. Franks have announced the marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth Caroline Franks, to Lt. Donald Dondero of the Naval Air Corps, on Saturday evening in Minden.

50 years ago

A young Carson City patrolman turned in his resignation today after more than four years on the police force to take a laborer’s job in the construction trade. The reason: His laborer’s wages will exceed by more than $200 a month his salary in law enforcement.
