The Arlington Square Ice Rink in downtown Carson City was closed Friday for the season due to uncooperative weather, a city official reported.
Meagan Soracco, recreation program manager with the Parks and Recreation Department, said the decision to close the rink for the season came just a few of days early.
“We were supposed to be closing on Sunday, the 8th,” she said, blaming the early closure on a combination of ongoing warm temperatures coupled with winds all day and afternoon showers on Friday.
She said due to the warmth and showers, keeping ice up to snuff was difficult and the high winds made skating on Friday untenable as well.
The Arlington Square Ice Rink is put up and open each winter on the Carson Nugget parking lot across North Carson Street to the west of the casino and south across West Robinson Street from the Carson Mint/State Museum.
