Kellie Roberts of Realty Executives Nevada’s Choice was recently presented with the Executive award by Realty Executives International.

The award is presented to the top 10 percent of agents within a franchise.

Sales associates, also known as executives, at Realty Executives average approximately 13 years of real estate experience.

Carson pottery studio moves locations

Carson City Pottery, formerly located in the basement of the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada at 813 N. Carson St., has moved to 248 E. Winnie Lane.

The pottery school and studio, which held its soft opening on Feb. 3, shares the strip mall with the Salvation Army, San Marcos Grill, United Blood Services, Going Places INK and more.

NDOT employees honored for innovation

Five Nevada Department of Transportation employees were recently recognized through the department’s Employee Recognition Program for cost-saving and life-saving innovations.

The Department’s dedication to environmental preservation through storm water management and other preservation practices was represented by recipients of two of the awards.

Hal Jensen, member of NDOT’s Lund maintenance crew, was recognized for developing a spray bar made of PVC pipe. When added to an NDOT water truck normally used to spray anti-icing chemicals on winter roads, the bar adapts the vehicle to spray water to reduce construction dust during NDOT summer maintenance projects in the Ely area. Using approximately $30 in PVC pipe, Jensen’s design turns the winter vehicle into a multi-purpose machine, eliminating the potential need for an additional $200,000 water truck for dust control.

Dave Cook and Blair Cutler of NDOT’s Wendover maintenance crew were recognized for developing a drain box which can be used to capture hydraulic fluid from stored NDOT sander vehicles. The fluid is captured in the box to be drained in an environmentally-sensitive manner without risk of leaching into nearby soils or water supplies.

The annual recognition award went to Jennifer Eyerly of NDOT administrative services and Kurt Garret and Oscar Fuentes of NDOT human resources. The group quickly rendered emergency aid to a fellow co-worker.

Other award recipients include: James Parsons of NDOT buildings and grounds for renovating existing office space into multi-faceted photo and historical photo archive areas and Megan Kilty for diligent work in multiple traffic operations projects and programs.

Dean McKay named Scot of the Year

Dr. Dean McKay was chosen as Scot of the Year by the Nevada Society of Scottish Clans for 2015.

In recognition of McKay’s professional accomplishments, the society presented him its Silver Thistle Award at last month’s annual Robert Burns celebration at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.

The award is presented annually to someone of Scottish descent who has distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to Northern Nevada in business, education, medicine, fine arts or philanthropy.

McKay is a businessman with more than 40 years of experience leading and managing technology companies. He has been a systems engineer, business executive, college professor, entrepreneur, manager and author. He is the CEO of Cirrus Systems in Sparks.

The Tahoe/Truckee Meadows area has been his home since 1989.
