More than 50 employers and a dozen job resource agencies are lined up for a city government job fair scheduled for Feb. 27 at Carson City’s Community Center.

The job fair, sponsored by city government and the Chamber of Commerce, will be on that final Friday afternoon of the month and could be the biggest in a series averaging at least 50 job connections per event. That estimate is based on only partial post-fair reporting from employers who participated.

This job fair will feature at least 55 confirmed employer participants signed up by early this month, as well as the 12 job resource agencies to help job seekers. Officials look forward to another strong turnout from both employers and prospective employees.

“They’ve always been successful in the past,” said Nicki Aaker, director of city Health and Human Services (HHS), the lead agency involved in the event in the community center gymnasium. The center is at 851 E. William St. Aaker voiced hope for continued solid results. Lynn Ellls, workforce case manager with HHS, called the lineup of companies topflight and said the list runs the gamut of possibilities.

Among them are manufacturers, gaming firms, retailers, banks, auto dealers, food service firms, staffing agencies, home health, security, home improvement outlets, utilities, state and city government, including police. She said five agencies supporting military veterans will have a presence at the fair and veterans will get early entry.

Employers will set up at 12:45 p.m. on the afternoon of Feb. 27, veterans will be admitted at 1:30 p.m. and the balance of the prospective employees can enter the free job connection event at 2 p.m. Employment hopefuls were urged to be primed properly to meet the employers.

“Job seekers should bring a updated resume, dress to impress, and be prepared to fill out applications,” according to the HHS workforce case manager. In addition, Ellis offers workshops for interview preparation and other pertinent factors for job seekers at HHS offices on Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 4 p.m.
