Senator Square: Carson High invites alumni back for Friday celebration

For the last six years, Carson High School has held an alumni night at the Carson-Douglas basketball game in which alumni are recognized and celebrated. It’s a chance for alumni to come back and visit the old stomping grounds, support the Senators and a chance for us to celebrate contributions and the lives of CHS alumni. The Alumni games will be held Friday against Douglas. The girls game will be held at 5:15 p.m. and boys at 7. Also that night, in celebration of their 40th anniversary, we would like to extend an invitation to all members of the 1975 State Championship Basketball team. We will be recognizing these players at halftime of the boys’ game. All alumni who attend the games that evening will be entered in a special raffle drawing for prizes.

TALENT SHOW

CHS Future Business Leaders of America are hosting the annual Talent Show at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Community Center. FBLA would like to send out a special thank you to the The Hop & Mae Adams Foundation as well as the New Entrepreneur Network for sponsoring the talent show. The sponsorship allows the club to provide cash prizes to the winners of the show. Tickets the night of the event are $8 at the door. Many talented student acts are scheduled to perform. MADRIGAL DINNER

CHS Choral Program is having their Madrigal Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday. A Madrigal Dinner or Madrigal Feast is an American form of dinner theater often held by schools. It’s set in the Middle Ages and is generally comedic in nature. The meal is divided into courses, each of which is heralded with a traditional song. A play is performed between the courses and a concert of choral music concludes the festivities. There will be a silent auction. Please plan to attend and support your CHS Choral Program.

ART STUDENT WINS AWARD

Alexandra Sprock competed in this year’s Scholastic Art and Writing competition and earned the Silver Key for her mixed media ceramic sculpture. Congratulations to Alexandra who will be receiving her award on Saturday, March 21 at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno.

SHARK TANK PRESENTATIONS

Carson High Business students are required to write a business plan for a start-up business. As a culminating activity, the students will present their plans to local business leaders and members of the community on May 5 and 6. These community leaders will evaluate the plans and present awards/gift cards/cash to the best plans. The Shark Tank sponsors are Greater Nevada Credit Union, US Bank, and The Adams Hub. SADIE HAWKINS DANCE

CHS FBLA will be hosting the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance for students at 7 p.m. March 13 in Senator Square. All profits raised from the event will be donated to the March of Dimes Organization. Tickets can be purchased in March for $5 per person or $10 per couple. The tradition of Sadie Hawkins is a girl asks a guy to the dance. The theme for the night is Blue Jeans for Babies. Jeans and/or western attire is encouraged. Contact Mrs. Golik for more information.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

This week’s student of the week is Kacey Lopes. Kacey is a junior at Carson High. She’s involved in National Honors Society as well as being a part of Carson’s string orchestra. Kacey is always on time to class, ready and willing to participate. She conducts herself in a professional and respectful manner and is a role-model for others. Thanks Kacey for being an awesome student here at CHS.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This week’s Senior Spotlight is on Lake Shank. Lake has a 4.3827 grade-point average and is currently carrying a full load of AP classes.

Lake has participated in cross country and track. She has also been a member of National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America throughout her high school career. Lake is interested in astronomy and physics and participated in Project Recon through the WNC Observatory. She has also been an active member of the community. Lake has volunteered at the Children’s Museum helping with the science camp and at the FISH thrift shop.

Lake is currently undecided about her course of study but is applying to several colleges. Her top three choices are University of Chicago, Stanford, and UC Santa Barbara.

Carson High School is proud of the contributions Lake has made to our school and community and wish her the best of luck in the future.
