Nevada state Treasurer Dan Schwartz is planning to give the first public presentation of his alternative budget proposal to the Nevada Legislature.
Schwartz will present his budget to the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday nearly a week after first announcing his proposed alternative to Gov. Brian Sandoval’s spending plan.
The Republican governor’s budget involves $1.1 billion in new and extended taxes, which Schwartz says doesn’t represent the will of voters who rejected tax proposals on the ballot in 2014.
Schwartz said he expects a frosty reception at the committee due to widespread support in the Senate for the governor’s budget, but he said an alternative to Sandoval’s proposal should be heard.
