Lawmakers have introduced a bill allowing gun owners with concealed carry permits to bring their weapons to schools and portions of airports.
Republican Assemblywoman Michele Fiore introduced AB 148 on Friday, and the bill was referred to the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
It would remove restrictions that bar concealed weapons permit holders from carrying their guns at colleges, public schools, child care facilities and non-secure parts of airports.
Current state law requires concealed weapon permit holders to obtain permission from campus authorities before bringing a concealed firearm onto school grounds.
Fiore introduced similar legislation last session that was never brought up for a vote in a Democrat-controlled committee.
Nineteen Assembly members and two senators signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of the bill. All are Republicans.
