July 11, 1928 - Jan. 30, 2015

Lois passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter, Leslie, in the early morning hours of January 30, 2015. Lois was born in Fallon, NV to George D. and Christina M. Fraser. She was the fourth of five children and grew up at the Schacht family ranch in Yerington, NV. She and her brothers and sisters were raised by their mother after their father died when Lois was two. While attending Lyon County High School she met Robert W. Vicks. They became high school sweethearts and married on July 27, 1946 at the Methodist Church in Reno; she was 18 and Bob was 17. They were married for over 50 years until Bob passed away in 1997. Bob worked in road construction and for the early years of their marriage Lois and Bob traveled throughout the state, wherever the work took them. In 1962 they bought their present home and settled permanently in Fallon. Lois was an excellent seamstress and worked part time for Elaine’s Dress Shop altering clothes. In 1963 she went to work at the Atomic Energy Commission Project Shoal office in Fallon. Next she worked for the Churchill County Extension Office. There she volunteered with the local 4-H and taught 4-H girls to sew. Her last employment was with the Nevada State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation as an administrative assistant. She retired in 1996. After her retirement, Lois volunteered at Fallon Industries. Being a grandmother was one thing she thoroughly enjoyed. She had nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. She made them clothes and quilts and taught them to sew, cook and drive. Lois had a very strong will to live and survived multiple cancers. When her failing health made it impossible for her to live independently, Leslie moved in with her and became her full time companion and care giver. Her sons and their families all are so grateful that Leslie was able to do this for their mother so she could remain in her home in Fallon. Her parents, husband, and her siblings, Hazel, Grant, Dorothy and George proceeded her in death. She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara), Steven (Jackie) and Leslie; her grandchildren, Meghan (Eddie), Alison, Michael (Anne), Katherine, William, Sarah, Ethan, and Sophia and Jennifer Bayless; her great granddaughter, Savannah; her sisters-in-law Betty Fraser and Carmen Sexton, her brother-in-law Richard Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Oasis Community Church, 1520 South Maine St., Fallon, NV at 11:00 am. Pastor Bill Vaughn will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Church’s community hall. Interment will be at 2:30 pm in the Fallon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Churchill County Museum, 1050 South Maine Street, Fallon NV 89406; St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Tribute #61964722 or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Sacramento, CA 95817. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Eden Hospice and the Smith Family Funeral Home for their kind and considerate care and assistance.
