A Nevada lawmaker is proposing a bill that would allow voters to receive sample ballots through email.
Republican Assemblyman Ira Hansen is presenting AB 94 on Tuesday to the Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections. Current state law requires city and county clerks to send sample ballots via direct mail to registered voters.
The proposal would allow voters to choose between receiving a sample ballot through normal mail or through email. The bill wouldn’t allow voters to submit actual ballots through email, as Nevada law only provides that method of voting to overseas or active military personnel.
Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria said the bill could translate into significant savings for the state, as the average cost for a single sample ballot is around $1.50.
