May 24,1931 - Jan. 28, 2015

Doris Joann Barredo was born in 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to Leonard and Doris Gleason. She moved to Denver with her mother and her four siblings Leonard, Betty, Etta, and Carol in her early teens, and then to Battle Mountain, Nevada at 16. Battle Mountain was a far cry from the cities she grew up in, but quickly her classmates and the community there made her feel welcome. There, she met and fell in love with local native Bunny Barredo. They were so anxious to get married that they dragged the local JOP out of his home on New Years Day 1950 to get the job done. Joann and Bunny had two children, Bunny Jo and Barry. They moved to Gabbs, NV, where both Joann and Bunny worked at the mine and raised their children. Later, Joann and Bunny moved to Fallon, NV, where they spent a long and happy retirement. Joann was an avid golfer. She loved the game and loved being on the course with ìthe girls’. She and Bunny traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, and all around northern Nevada to play golf. Joann loved to dance, and she was lucky to have a husband who, though he did not love to dance, loved dancing with her. She volunteered with the VFW Auxiliary for many years in their thrift store. Joann was gregarious all her life. She could make a friend while washing her hands next to someone in the restroom at Applebee’s. Joann was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She supported her children through everything, and doted on her grandchildren, documenting any gathering with her ever-present camera. Joann appreciated every day of life. To her, every sunny day was beautiful, and every rainstorm was welcomed. She brought joy, love, and laughter to those who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Joann is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bunny Barredo, daughter Bunny, son Barry, brother Happy, sister Etta, son-in-law Jim, grandson Edward, granddaughter Audrey, and the friends and family that she loved dearly. A graveside service will be held at the Fallon cemetery on Saturday January 31 at 3pm. The family suggests donations be made in her memory to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home.
