Assignments for committee or related work to be handled by members of Carson City’s Board of Supervisors were done by the governing board Monday for four of the five members and confirmed Tuesday at City Hall.
Mayor Robert Crowell will represent city government’s policy making board at the Nevada Association of Counties (NACO), the Western Nevada Legislative Coalition and on the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC).
Supervisor Karen Abowd is to serve with the Carson River Subconservancy District, the community’s Visitors Bureau board and the local Cultural Commission. In the leadership selections, she also continued as the board’s mayor pro tem and as chairperson of the Redevelopment Authority. The mayor pro tem is board chairperson when the mayor isn’t available.
Supervisor Brad Bonkowski has the second slot with the water subconservancy, the second slot with the RTC, the other spot on the Western Nevada Legislative Coalition, and is serving on the Debt Management Committee.
Supervisor Lori Bagwell will serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission, the Audit Committee, as the governing board’s representative on the Municipal Golf Board and as the alternate to NACO.
Supervisor Jim Shirk was shut out in his attempts to win a spot on several of the committees, boards or commissions, though he withdrew from one potential contest and declined when a colleague nominated him for another spot. He nominated himself for several posts, at one point saying he would put in his own name for one slot on the RTC because he didn’t think anyone else would nominate him for it.
The board during its Monday organizational meeting also reaffirmed former Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean to serve again as city government’s lead representative on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
