RENO — State troopers have arrested a 34-year-old Incline Village man they say fled the scene of a hit-and-run accident on the Mount Rose Highway that killed one person and seriously injured two others on New Year’s Day.

Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman David Gibson said Tuesday that Manuel Mejia-Verduzco has been booked on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death, failure to give aid and driving without a license.

Troopers tracked him to his apartment, where they said he was hiding in the bathroom with a broken arm and broken leg.

Investigators say he was driving a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo that crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty.

A passenger in the Isuzu, 40-year-old Hugo Soto-Barrios, later died from his injuries.

Two passengers in the other car remain in serious condition at a Reno hospital.
