Authorities say a longtime Nevada inmate who they previously thought might have been killed by another person actually died of a medical condition.

Officials with the Nevada Department of Corrections say an autopsy by the Washoe County coroner concluded that 72-year-old Frederick Sigmund’s death was natural.

Sigmund was found unresponsive in his cell in the Northern Nevada Correctional Center on Oct. 18. He was later pronounced dead.

Sigmund had been serving a sentence of five years to life in prison after being convicted of sexual assault in Clark County. He had been in the prison system since 1981.
