Prep roundup: Carson girls overcome slow start for win

RENO — Carson shook off a scoreless first quarter en route to a 29-23 win over McQueen Friday night at John Flynn Gymnasium.

Carson evened it league record to 3-3 heading into next Tuesday’s game against Damonte Ranch.

The Senators, who were 9-for-60 from the field, scored the game’s last 12 points to erase a 23-17 deficit.

Maddie Preston, who led all scorers with 15 points, had six in that span. She scored all but two of her points in the second half. Melissa Glanzmann added four points, while Ivy Pembrook and Michelle Perry added three each.

Douglas wins big

MINDEN — Maddy Lowe scored 16 points to lead Douglas past Hug 61-35.

Douglas (5-1 league, 13-3 overall) jumped out to a 17-4 first-quarter advantage and went on to extend its win streak to five games. The Tigers extended their lead to 34-14 at halftime.

Corryne Millett also scored 12 points and Leonna Mortimer 11 for Douglas.

Zadrea Hawkins scored 14, including three 3-pointers, to lead Hug (5-6, 1-5).

Sierra Lutheran rolls

Cali Benton scored 11 points and Leanna Temple added eight points for Sierra Lutheran, who rolled to a 35-16 win over Sage Ridge.

Dayton falls to Fallon

DAYTON — Dayton played with Fallon on even terms before the Greenwave took command in the second quarter on their way to a 74-26 win.

The game was tied 13-13 after one quarter, but Fallon used its press to score eight quick points to begin the second quarter. Dayton was also plagued by foul trouble.

“It’s frustrating to see how fast and tough we started the game only to lose our cool,” Dayton coach Kelly Frantz said. “We just never could overcome the foul trouble and threw the ball away too much.”

Angela Sikora scored 11 points, Christi Ricci had five points and Kristina Mason added three points, six rebounds and four blocks for the Dust Devils. “We saw some great things happen in the first quarter that we need to build on and carry through the rest of the game,” Frantz said. “We are getting there.”

Yerington rolls to easy win

YERINGTON — Sam Hammond had 17 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks, Bryan Ramirez scored 16 points, Koby Foster scored 10 points, Dakota Aiazzi had four assists and Matt Brannan added five rebounds to lead Yerington to a 67-48 win over West Wendover.

Douglas pounds Hug

MINDEN — Douglas began the game with an 11-0 run and never looked back Friday night en route to the Northern Division I crossover 61-30 victory over Hug at Randy Green Court.

Three players scored in double figures to lead a balanced attack for Douglas (4-2 league, 6-10 overall), led by Jace Hart with 13. Michael Johnson added 12 points and Connor Lyons 10.

After the Tigers controlled the opening tip, Lyons knocked down a 3-pointer from the left corner to put the Tigers on their way to a 16-3 first-quarter lead. The Tigers extended their lead to 30-6 at halftime against Hug (0-5, 1-11).

Dayton dropped by Greenwave

DAYTON — Fallon led from wire-to-wire to knock off Dayton, 63-48, Friday night.

Dayton returns to action Tuesday at Truckee.

“We played well,” Dayton coach Jason Santos said. “A lot of their points came off putbacks; busted plays. Everything seemed to go their way.”

Blake Blocker led Dayton with 13 points and Dylan Monroe added 10. Jon Joiner chipped in nine.

Muckers pummel Pyramid Lake

PYRAMID LAKE — Clint Hess scored 25 points to lead the Muckers (3-0, 11-2) to an easy 52-22 road win Friday night.

Christian Lindsay added eight for the Muckers, who entertain Smith Valley today at 5:30 p.m.

RENO — Greg Wallace and Gurpreet Badhan each scored 14 points and Taylor Saarem added seven points for Carson (8-6) in its 51-44 loss to McQueen.

Share sparks Senators

Josie Share scored 14 points to spark Carson to a 44-35 home win over McQueen.

Carson, 12-3 overall, got nine points from Camiell Simpson and eight from Mallory Otto.

Carson wins thriller

Abby Paulson had 10 points and five assists, Katelyn Morse scored nine points, Lauren Lemburg had seven points and three assists and Dajarrah Navarro and Hannah Phillipi each added six points for Carson (9-5) in its 44-39 win over McQueen.

Senators open 2015 season

ALPINE MEADOWS — Connor McRae and Bailee Barber finished 27th and 28th, respectively to lead Carson High in the giant slalom on Thursday.

Noah Giron was 38th, Adam Daniels 43rd, Richard Stock 46th and Matt Gunkel 47th.

Alison Greene was 30th, Anna Glenn 38th, Hannah Parks 39th and Emma Breeding 41st complemented Barber.
