RENO — A former assistant coach at Nevada has been named the new head coach of the Wolf Pack women’s volleyball team.

Athletic Director Doug Knuth announced Monday that 47-year-old Lee Nelson has been hired for the job after working the last three years as an assistant at the University of Miami. The Hurricanes went to the NCAA Tournament each of those years.

Nelson served as a Nevada assistant in 1999. He played collegiately at UC Santa Barbara from 1985-89 and helped the Gauchos to an appearance in the NCAA Championship match in 1988. He also played professionally in Finland and the Netherlands.
