Camp McDermott and Chief Winnemucca: “Carlin,” said the old war chief, “is too populous a white settlement. There will be too much intermixture of the whites and Indians.” He prayed that the camp where he and his warriors and women and children have drawn their rations and the blankets and calico might be continued. Sarah Winnemucca is in Carson and will seek an opportunity to be heard before Legislative committees on behalf of her father and her people.

Laughing gas. Nick Andrews of the Assembly also reached Dr. Southworth’s office about the same time. As luck would have it, he found four young ladies all waiting to have gas administered. The dentist had gone after mail and the curiosity of one of the young ladies was induced to monkey with the stop-cock of the doctor’s gas machine. In a few minutes a hundred gallon container of laughing gas was liberated in the room. (Continued on Wednesday.)

Strike near home. A strike of considerable importance has taken place in the mining south of this city. Kid Egan, Wm. Carr and another party have uncovered a very rich ledge about five miles from the Buckeye placer diggings. Assays taken went all the way from $30 to $100 in gold.
