Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., will chair the Senate Finance Committee’s subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy in the new congressional session.
He’s the first Nevada senator to chair a subcommittee on finance, one of the most powerful committees in Congress.
He said the post will allow him to fully address issues and concerns important to Nevada’s estimated 380,000 seniors.
Membership on the Finance Committee, let alone a subcommittee chairmanship, is usually reserved for senior members of the Senate.
“I will seek to honor America’s promise to preserve and protect Social Security for current and future beneficiaries alike,” said Heller.
