The Carson Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team took first place at the South Tahoe Optimist Tournament on Jan. 23-24.
The team beat Pau Wa Lu in the finals and went 6-1 overall. No other information was provided.
Thus far the team is 15-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Eagle Valley’s seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams beat Carson Middle School in a recent league match.
The eighth-grade sqad won 17-25, 25-23 and 15-11.
Yanitza Perez-Galvan had 27 assists, two aces and two digs, Kassidy Cooley had six kills, a block and two aces, Dez McGiluray added three digs. Haley Garver served up four aces and Hannah Pembrook contributed three digs, an ace and a kill. Ashley Britt added two digs with Rhiannon Jimmy finishing with two digs and a kill.
Kailee Luschar and Olivia Singleton each had nine sevice points in EV’s seventh grade 21-25, 25-16 and 15-12 victory. Luschar also had two aces and two kills, while Singleton added two digs.
Camryn Quilling finished with four service points, an ace, three kills and three digs. Gloria Valdenegro had seven service points and four digs, and Abby Lemburg had two service points, an ace and three kills
Cabela’s offers handgun
safety classes Feb 7-8
Cabela’s will be conducting several free, NRA-approved handgun, firearm safety and home defense classes both days this weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the conference rooms during its annual NRA Weekend, Feb. 7-8. The store will continue offering its free personal protection seminar series Saturday at 1 p.m. with the 90-minute ASAP (APEX Stay Alive Program) class taught by Jeff May as well as the free, 90-minute Ladies’ Intro to Handguns class at 10 a.m. that is offered monthly at the store by Vicki Kawelmacher and Carol Morrell of the Women’s Shooting Academy. The NRA-approved firearms safety classes will be taught by Monty Turner of Personal Defense, an NRA-certified training counselor, one of only two such instructors in Nevada.

golf tourney Saturday
The annual Super Saturday Tournament at Carson Valley Golf Club starts at 10 a.m.
Teams will be drafted to represent the AFC and NFC, meaning half the field will win money. The cost is $35, which includes golf, cart, $10 toward the prize fund and soup at the turn. For pass holder it’s the usual fee plus $13. For information, call 265-3181.
