SPARKS — Clint Hess scored 32 points to lead Virginia City to a 55-46 win over Excel Christian in a Division IV boys basketball game Tuesday.
VC improved to 9-0 in league heading into Friday’s game at Smith Valley.
Christian Lindsay added nine for the Muckers.

Carson outscores Manogue
Carson improved to 4-0 in high school bowling after a 42.5-2.5 win over Bishop Manogue recently.
Conlin Herrick rolled a 232-663 to lead CHS, while Skylar Belcher had a 213 and 607. Chris Baird was close behind with a 210 and 603. Matt Liddell 254-596, Matt Hinton 214-539, Dustin Floyd 190-530. Brett Paulson 188-517 and Eugene Mills 190-509 also bowled well. Samantha Hinton was CHS’ top female bowler with a 174-455.
Carson returns to action Feb. 4 at Cocunut Bowl against Damonte Ranch.

VanRensselaer takes
13th for CHS team
Ian VanRensselaer finished 13th and Noah Giron 15th to lead Carson High at Monday’s high school meet.
Karsen Law was 20th, Connor McRae 27th and Richard Stock was 32nd. On the girls side, Alison Greene was 23rd, Anna Glenn 27th, Emma Breeding 29th and Bailee Barber was 32nd.
The team’s next race is at Diamond Peak on Feb. 4.
JV GIRLS BASKETBALL
Carson edges Douglas
Josie Share scored 12 points, Anya Woodbury had seven points, Mallory Otto had six points, Molly Otto had three points and Jenae Steele added three points as Carson (16-3, 10-1) was just able to hold off Douglas for a 32-30 win.
Silver Stage edges Falcons
Silver Stage knocked off Sierra Lutheran, 29-18, in a nonconference game Tuesday night.
Aleyna Gibson and Brynna Hansen had six points each and Claire Benson added four.
Sierra Lutheran is 4-0 in league play.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Carson edges Douglas
MINDEN — Greg Wallace scored 22 points, Brandon Gagnon had nine points and Sevon Mandoki added seven points for Carson (12-7), which held off Douglas for the 52-49 win.
FRESHMAN GIRLS BASKETBALL
Douglas edges Carson in OT
Abbey Paulson scored eight points and had five assists in the 33-28 overtime loss Tuesday.
Blanca Sosa also had eight points for Carson. Meghan Olsen, Jasmine Peralta, and Dajarrah Navarro each added four points apiece.
Carson dropped to 13-6 on the year.
