The Nevada State Railroad Museum’s Fourth of July celebration Friday through Sunday offers a parade of trains, featuring the Inyo, No. 25 and the McKeen car, at 9 a.m. each morning. Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum and Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery will host a silent auction on Saturday. Warren Engine Co. will sell refreshments at the depot each day. Wristbands for $15 include admission to the museum and unlimited rides on the McKeen car and steam train on the day of purchase. RSVP’s annual carnival with food, rides and games for all ages is Thursday through Sunday in Mills Park, where Jake Armer and the Hot Dogs will perform from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Live radio remote on Magic 95.5 FM begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday and leads up to a broadcast of patriotic music to coordinate with the fireworks display at dusk. Virginia City’s Fourth of July celebration includes a parade, raffle, auction, live music, food, vendors and fireworks. The parade starts at noon from the south at the Fourth Ward School. The Comstock Cowboys Second Amendment concert will be at 6 p.m. in the parking lot next to the Bucket of Blood Saloon. Fireworks start after dark at Miner’s Park at Carson and F streets.
Celebrate Independence Day the old fashioned way with traditional games, homemade toys and crafts, and sweet treats from the 1800s at Fort Churchill State Historic Park’s celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Activities for all ages include sack races, three-legged races, ring toss, bean bag toss, watermelon seed spitting contest, and hand-cranked ice cream. The event is at the Orchard day use area, about 9 miles south of the Highway 95A/Highway 50 intersection on Highway 95A. The cost to enter the park is $7 per vehicle; Nevada residents receive a $2 discount.
The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra is bringing back its traditional Fourth of July concert in the park at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Heritage Park in Gardnerville, immediately following the Gardnerville Fun Run. The Pops Orchestra will be joined by the Voices of the Sierra Choir, led by Rodger Banes. Attendees are welcome to bring picnics and blankets and lawn chairs.
Genoa’s Americana Fourth of July celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Mormon Station State Historic Park. The event kicks off with a children’s parade and musical performances by five local musicians and country and bluegrass bands. The performances conclude with a concert by Carson City Symphony. Genoa Volunteer Fire Department will be serving up chicken barbecue plates for $12 each from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
