Mark Steven Miller, age 83, of Fallon, Nevada, passed away on June 23, 2015, at home with loved ones beside him. Mark was born May 30, 1932, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Leonard K. Miller and Eva Gibby. He moved to Fallon in 1947 and graduated from Churchill County High School in 1951. Mark had numerous career adventures beginning with a four year enlistment in the US Navy (1951 to 1955) where he served as Aviation Photographer’s Mate. Mark’s most notable occupation was co-owner of Deal and Miller Insurance and Real Estate Agency for 30 years. More recently he owned Advance Inc., with offices in Fallon and other locations in Nevada.Mark liked being active; he enjoyed hiking desert trails, biking, swimmingsnorkeling, canoeing, sailing and boating. Once he built a houseboat which he and his family floated on Lake Lahontan. He loved to travel. His overseas visits led him to Wales, the birthplace of his Grandfather Gibby. He also visited England, Spain, Portugal, Thailand and China. He was active in local politics, serving three years as Churchill County School Board Chairman and five years as a board member. Mark savored coffee dates with friends. Regarding food, his motto was “If it tastes good, spit it out.” Mark is survived by his longtime companion, Norma B. McNett, of Fallon, NV, and one sister, Dorothy Reid Moss, of Pleasant Hill, CA. While married to Joyce Edwards, he became the proud father of five children: Steve (Mona) Miller of Fallon, Lynn (Bob) Isakson of Henderson, NV, Carol (Robert) Alley, MD of Ketchikan, AK, Linda MWJ (Charles) Smoot of Reno, and David Miller of Soldotna, AK. Other survivors include his grandchildren: Michelle, Sharon, Susan, Russell, Stephanie, Emily, and David, great-grandchild, Conner, and many nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, D. Leonard Miller, MD, Max G. Miller, Jack (John) Miller, sister, Bessie Whitehead, and 8 year old nephew, Leif Clever. For those who wish to attend, Mark’s viewing will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon on Monday, June 29, 2015, between 6 to 8 p.m. Honoring his wishes, there will be no funeral service.
