Otto Sandmeier, at the age 74, died with his family and close friends by his side, Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City, NV. He touched many lives and will be missed. On January 15, 1941 Otto was born in Russia to Christian and Lydia Sandmeier and soon after moved to Wolfsburg, Germany. In 1952 the family immigrated to the United States settling in Lodi, CA where he graduated from high school in 1959. Otto met Dorit Nahs and they were married in 1964. He loved his family and leaves his wife of 51 years, Dorit, daughter and son-in-law Nadine (Daniel) of Grapevine, TX, daughter Kristine of Reno NV, his extended family in Germany and many close friends. Otto was a Master Sausage Maker and in his early years you could find him behind the meat counter of Sell-Rite Market, greeting people with his big smile and jovial laugh. In the late ‘60’s he became a partner in Lakewood Meats and Sausage and after serving his loyal customers for many years, Otto left self-employment to work for Victor Fine Foods. In 1990 he and Dorit moved to Dayton, NV where he was General Manager of The Sausage Factory in Carson City. Being the Wurstmeister, Otto enjoyed cooking and barbequing for the family, big picnics in the Redwoods and driving from one scenic town to another while vacationing throughout California and Nevada. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 12 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Family 1201 N. Saliman Rd., Carson City NV at 2:00 pm with a graveside service Saturday, June 13 at Cherokee Memorial Park, Harney Ln. at HWY 99 in Lodi, CA at 2:00 pm.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Otto’s memory to St. Paul’s Lutheran Family or a charity of your choice.
