150 Years Ago

Printer. The printers in the Grass Valley, Union office, decided to put their Ruggle’s press on a car to participate in the Fourth of July procession. The horse ran away, upset the car, and the press was demolished.

130 Years Ago

A pressing need. Carson is in need of a new arrangement by which fires can be handled — It needs a chief of the Fire Department, some new hose and a system by which the city can be supplied with all the water it needs. At present the water is turned on in Phillips’ field. There is another place to turn on water near Miss Clapp’s. If possible the City Trustees should select a chief among the two companies and pay a small salary, and pay each member for attending the fire. No one can be expected to do some good work for nothing. Many volunteer firemen get injured, lose a day’s work, ruin their clothes.

All sorts. The small pox cases are improving and no new ones reported. Catfish are biting fine at Washoe Lake and good catches made daily.

Carson City Chamber of Commerce met at the Civic Auditorium and elected Kenneth F. Johnson president of the organization.
