The new Methodist Church. The stone walls of the new church are going up under the direct supervision of the Pastor Rev. Warren Nims. He may be seen driving a two-horse team hitched to a lumber wagon on which the rock is hauled for the church building. He is made of the right kind of stuff for a pioneer preacher.

Las Vegas, doing it right. The settlers in the desert organized a Board of Trade. They knew they wanted a new and progressive town, and the people are reaping the harvest. Las Vegas takes no chances and shows its virtues, and lets the outside world know it’s on the map.

‘Bud’ Miller. Edwin H. (‘Bud’) Miller has become a partner in his father’s real estate and insurance business. The concern will now be known as E. W. Miller and Son. The young officer is resting at Lake Tahoe after five years in the Army Air Corps.

Silver. Keeping silver in coins is what westerners in Congress plan to do. Rep. Walter S. Baring, Compton I. White, Jr., D-Idaho and Wayne N. Aspinali, D-Colorado have been assured of help from other mining state representatives. The three will head up efforts to amend the bill that calls for coins without silver and try to restore silver to half dollars first ...

Millennium Scholarship. 6,500 Nevada students have qualified for the millennium scholarship. Gov. Kenny Guinn said that beginning with the class of 2000 scholarships will pay up to $10,000 for tuition costs for students attending one of Nevada’s universities or community colleges. Scholarships for students — Carson City: 229; Douglas: 211; and Lyon: 139.
