Minden-Tahoe Airport receives $1.3 million grant

Minden-Tahoe Airport received a $1,359,375 to fund the rehabilitation of taxiway and apron pavement as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s $6.2 million in grants for improvements to rural Nevada airports.

The grants will fund construction projects, modernize equipment, improve runways and enhance safety at airports in rural counties throughout the Silver State.

“Transportation is vital to Nevada’s continued growth and these funds will help facilitate that expansion,” Senator Harry Reid said. “Improving and modernizing our rural airports is key to the economic success of each of our counties. I will continue to ensure every airport has the 21st century infrastructure it needs to expand rural economies and provide safe and convenient access to areas across Nevada.”

Reid also announced more than $290,000 in funding from the Federal Highway Administration for a pilot program that would deploy peak-season pricing and enforcement at a rural tourist parking facility in the Lake Tahoe SR 28 Corridor.

These grants are just the latest in funding to help improve Nevada’s airports and transportation system. Last year, Reid announced more than $9.1 million in FAA grants for construction updates and equipment repairs at airports throughout rural Nevada. In 2012, he helped pass the FAA Reauthorization Act which has saved more than 280,000 jobs while protecting Nevadans by updating air-traffic control systems to meet modern-day standards.

Other projects funded by the FAA grants include:

Ely/Yelland Field Airport, $2,110,214: This will fund the first phase of the reconstruction of runway pavement. It will also fund the engineering design for taxiway rehabilitation.

Minden-Tahoe Airport, $1,359,375: This will fund the rehabilitation of taxiway and apron pavement.

Jackpot/Hayden Field Airport, $871,875: This will fund the installation of a replacement runway lighting system. to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility. It will also fund a new vertical/visual guidance system to make the airport more accessible to pilots.

Derby Field Airport, $600,000: This will fund the rehabilitation of runways and pavement and fund the replacement of the vertical/visual guidance system to make the airport more accessible to pilots.

Boulder City Municipal Airport, $478,125: This will fund an update to the existing airport master plan study to show the current and future needs of the airport.

Owyhee Airport, $450,000: This will fund the acquisition of snow removal equipment and the construction of a snow removal equipment building.

Fallon Municipal Airport, $150,000: This project will fund runway rehabilitation.

Lincoln County Airport, $150,000: This will fund the construction of a perimeter fence and assist in the design of a single pump fuel facility to assist the airport to be as self-sustaining as possible.

Alamo Landing Field, $105,000: This will fund the acquisition of new snow removal equipment to keep the airport serviceable during snow periods and aid in safety operations.
