150 Years Ago

Nevada Historical Society. The Articles of Incorporation was adopted, signed, acknowledged and filed, incorporating the “Nevada Historical and Scientific Society.” The Board of Directors named for six months — Thomas Wells, W. B. Lawlor, W. F. B. Lynch, A. F. White and C. L. Anderson. The Articles can be seen at the office of the Secretary of State and County Recorder.

130 Years Ago

Local notes. The skating rink will only be open on Saturday nights during the heated term. A burly ruffian distinguished himself by felling a helpless, cripple peanut vender to the ground. Were it not for the officers, the boy might have fared badly.

110 Years Ago

Yellow flag flying. Another case of smallpox is being treated. The niece of Mrs. Horace Meder is the victim. She has a very mild case but authorities have taken the precaution to prevent anyone from coming or going. The only way to handle the disease is by a strict quarantine. A watchman has been placed around the house to see that the quarantine rules are enforced.

70 Years Ago

Limits lifted. The war production board revoked restrictions on the production of sewing machines for domestic use. The machines can now be manufactured and they will not be rationed.

50 Years Ago

Task force. A three-state task force has been formed with the goal of making the western United States the leading tourist attraction. It will hold its first meeting in Carson City, according to Gov. Grant Sawyer.

15 Years Ago

Gas prices. A survey of 10 stations showed an average price of $1.73 a gallon, compared with $1.61 on June 20, 2000.
