Dhami renamed to Carson City Visitors Bureau board

Jaswinder Dhami, reappointed for another term on Carson City’s Visitors Bureau board, is looking to build on progress in attracting tourists and benefitting the local economy.

Dhami, also known as Jesse, was selected by the city’s Board of Supervisors Thursday to fill a lodging industry seat on the bureau board after interviews with him and Sandra Nagel of the local Hampton Inn. The new term for Dhami expires in mid 2017. A lodging property owner/operator, he’s involved in hospitality industry holdings that include the local Holiday Inn Express.

Dhami told the board he feels the bureau’s rebranding emphasizing recreation since the bureau board hired Joel Dunn as executive director is working, but the new marketing and related focus activities are just getting started. He noted that’s among the reasons he wanted to continue on the board. He also said lodging property occupancy is up of late in Carson City.

The city’s governing board also interviewed three people for three spots on the Advisory Board of Manage Wildlife in Carson City. There were five applicants but just three showed up for the interviews and afterward got the seats. Doug Martin, the current wildlife management unit chairman, was reappointed, as was member Gil Yanuck. Robert Boehmer was selected for the third open seat. Three-year terms until mid-2018 were involved.

Martin and Yanuck are retired and active in fields related to wildlife and outdoor matters. Boehmer is executive officer and program coordinator for Nevada’s Boy Scouts of America and president of the Nevada Operation Game Thief citizens board, a secret witness program aimed at fighting wildlife poaching or related illegal activity.
