The Brewery Arts Center is kicking off its annual membership with a concert series, beginning 7 p.m. July 24. The series runs through September.

The first concert will feature the world rhythm, jazz and funk band Delta Nove followed by the bluegrass sound of the Rita Hoskins trio the following evening on July 25.

“We want to expose people to different sounds and sights,” said Kyle Horvath, president of the Brewery Arts Center’s board of directors. “We’re bringing in more regionally and nationally touring acts, while still providing a venue for local acts.”

Prices range between $50 and $150 for yearly memberships, for individuals, families or businesses.

Members will receive discounted rates for shows and other entertainment at the arts center, as well as discounts for rentals, invitations to special events, free drinks and other offers.

The fees are used to keep the Brewery Arts Center operational. Horvath said the center’s performance hall has received a new sound system, and is soon to have an upgraded light system and a remodel to the front entry way.

“By coming to the Brewery Arts Center and being entertained, you are also supporting youth, you’re supporting education and you’re supporting the continued growth of arts and culture in Carson City,” Horvath said.

Kathy McClintock sent me an email Friday. She said she came across the article I wrote in 2010 when the Carson High School graduating seniors changed the C on C Hill to a 10.

She said she helped that tradition gain some traction south.

“I took a picture of the C/10 and sent it to my niece who was graduating from Coleville,” she wrote. “Sure enough, when I traveled to her graduation two days later, even with short notice and no dollar store close at hand, they had done a very credible replica.”

As an aside, I got an email when I wrote about this tradition having started in Carson City in 2010, that it was done years ago, too. Let me know if you have memories of doing this before then.
