Carson Station will officially become the Max Casino next Wednesday when a new sign goes up.
General Manager Lee Kennedy said the new name is just one of a long list of changes and upgrades at the property on south Carson Street.
“It made sense to change the name because of the way the casino is going to look when it is done,” he said.
Kennedy said there will be a “soft grand opening” next Friday with vehicles from the Silver Dollar Car Classic and live bands both in the parking lot and inside. He said there will be an official grand opening in September when the work will be done.
“Right now there are a whole lot of moving pieces that have to be taken care of,” he said.
Kennedy said the hotel-casino’s 91 rooms have already been upgraded and are getting more attention as work continues. Workers were finishing installation of new carpeting on the casino floor Friday.
The casino floor will offer 207 games to start with along with a casino pit.
In addition, he said the snack bar will re-open and the 144 seat dinner restaurant will be renovated during phase two of the project.
“I’ve been here since March as we’re finally getting to execute it,” he said. “I’m happy about it; the players are happy. We’re very excited about all the changes that are coming.”
The casino also announced a list of Friday night live bands extending through the end of August.
The casino employs some 200 people and Kennedy said, “hopefully we’re going to be employing many more coming up.”
He declined to say how much money the renovations and changes cost except that it’s a “significant” amount of money.
