RENO — A hiker who was trapped in the Tahoe National Forest overnight after suffering an injury has been rescued.

KTVN-TV reports that 23-year-old Anthony Rissone got separated from his friends while hiking in the Emerald Pools area Friday. While he was alone, he injured his knee and was unable to walk.

The California Highway Patrol joined the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office in the search for the Reno man. Night vision goggles and an infrared camera on a helicopter helped locate the hiker Friday night.

Crews told Rissone that they would return for him Saturday morning, because the rugged terrain had made it difficult to land the copter.

Rissone was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
