Several small earthquakes struck the Pine Nuts northeast of McTarnahan Hill in eastern Carson City.
Four earthquakes ranged in size from 2.2 magnitude to 1.4 and all occurred within an hour of one another. There was a fifth magnitude 2 earthquake further east at 7:38 a.m. this morning, according to the University of Nevada, Reno, Seismology Lab.
Nevada is the third most seismically active state after Alaska and California.
