Petroleum Lake Oil Co. Citizens have organized for the purpose of procuring oil from Petroleum Lake in Churchill County. On one side of the lake the water is covered with an oily substance that seeps from the porous rock on the shore. A sample was tested, and it was pronounced kerosene. Because of the presence of so much salt, the water is dense and bathers find it impossible to sink below their armpits (Lyon County Sentinel).

Camping out (continued from Thursday). “Last night it rained all night, and all hands got mad and wouldn’t put up any tents. We got a glorious soaking ... and was glad to see Mrs. — going about like a wet hen. A wagon broke down and spilled everything out. Provisions are short, and I’m afraid the rest of the crowd will kill me and eat me like they do in the Arctic regions ...”

Yerington. Articles of Incorporation will be filed with the Secretary of State for Yerington to have a bank. The capitol stock is $500,000.

Training for war. Radio Tokyo said that all Japanese males over 14 in occupied China are being trained “to cope with the enemy’s coastal landing plan.”
