Gone to wars. Gov. Blasdel and Col. McDermitt, with a strong escort, left Fort Churchill yesterday for the scene of the Indian disturbances in the eastern part of the state.

130 years ago

Froze his feet. Night before last John Sweeny, an old rancher who runs a pasture patch northeast of this city, drove home behind a horse named Baldy. On attempting to alight from his buggy, he found both feet frozen. It was found his feet froze not because of the weather, but from ice packed around his feet form the Opera Hall saloon. He didn’t know they were there and wedged his feet between the blocks on the buckboard and his feet were frozen before he knew it.

Mrs. M. H. Crisler left last night for Reno with the Nevada battleship flags, which she will exhibit in the riverside city for the remainder of the week. Sunday Mrs. Crisler will resume her journey to Tonopah and Goldfield to show the emblems of this state given to the big naval boat.

Edwin L. Bullis will present diplomas to a Junior High School class of 209 graduates, 96 boys and 113 girls, this evening at Carson High School.

Cave Rock businessman Manford “Manny” Beals has been found in contempt of court order of August 1977, and fined $500 for failure to move nonconforming signs from his property at Cave Rock.
