Karl Brokmann has joined Greater Nevada Credit Union as the new finance and treasury manager.
Brokmann brings more than 13 years experience in finance and investor relations and will oversee Greater Nevada’s regulatory compliance, budgeting and financial analysis.
In addition, Brokmann, who has lived in Reno for 22 years, has been a volunteer with The United Way and also teaches business statistics at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Greater Nevada is headquartered in Carson City and has been helping Nevadans with their financial needs since 1949. The credit union serves 48,000 consumers and small businesses, and has more than $541 million in assets.

New yoga and wellness studio hosting grand opening
Gaia Wellness and Yoga is hosting its grand opening from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 19 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20 to celebrate opening its doors at 1475 Old Hot Springs Road, Suite 1.
Gaia Wellness and Yoga, whose owners are Theresa Simmons and Sara Lowry, is offering a variety of workshops, classes and lectures about body movement, meditation, wellness, health, skin care, herbs, energy and more. It also offers massage therapy and Reiki. Regular yoga classes include: flow, hatha, restorative and Iyengar. The center plans on offering tai chi, qigong and kundalini yoga later this year, along with yoga for children and teens.
Theresa Simmons has been part of the Carson City community for approximately 30 years. She began her journey of yoga through Ayurveda and transcendental meditation about 25 years ago, going on to learn about the Chakras, Jyotish, herbs, supplements, energy work and Sanskrit. Simmons began teaching yoga in 2003 at the Carson Community Center, Western Nevada Community College and in Dayton, also teaching the Latch Key programs in Carson City and Lyon County. She received her bachelor’s in social work in 2008 with a masters in transpersonal psychology in 2012. She has also completed several yoga certifications. She teaches in several gyms and at Carson Tahoe Hospital’s Health and Wellness center through the cardiac rehab and maintenance program.
Sara Lowry moved to the U.S. from England almost 23 years ago. She started practicing yoga shortly after her arrival to Nevada in 1992. Sara has been a practicing registered nurse for more than 25 years. In 2013 she completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training, approved by Yoga Alliance. She continues to attend workshops, conferences and classes, nationally and internationally.
The grand opening event will touch on the center’s upcoming workshops and programs, with 15-minute informative sessions with early sign ups. There will be natural and homemade products by area vendors, as well as palm and card readings; music; drinks and appetizers; raffles and silent actions; giveaways and more. At 3 p.m., there will be a Puja, a spiritual ceremony to kick off the opening of the center.
